Ramnaresh Ronnie Sarwan, born on 23 June 1980 on Wakenaam Island in the Essequibo River, Guyana, is a former West Indies captain and one of the most accomplished Guyanese batsmen of the 2000s. A stylish right-handed batsman who also bowled useful leg-spin, Sarwan was a key figure in the West Indies lineup during a transitional period for Caribbean cricket.
Sarwan made his Test debut on 18 May 2000 against Pakistan at the age of 19. Over his career he played 87 Tests, scoring 5,842 runs at an average of 40.01 with 15 centuries and a highest score of 291 against England at Bridgetown in 2009. In 181 ODIs he added 5,600 runs. He captained the West Indies and also played county cricket for Gloucestershire and Leicestershire, as well as in the IPL for Kings XI Punjab and the CPL for Guyana Amazon Warriors.

Sarwan's innings of 291 against England in 2009 remains one of the highest scores by a West Indian batsman and is the highest individual score by a Guyanese in Test cricket. He was a reliable and elegant presence in the middle order for over a decade.
