Carl Llewelyn Hooper, born on 15 December 1966 in Georgetown, Guyana, is a former West Indies cricket captain and one of the most talented all-rounders of his era. A right-handed batsman of exceptional elegance and a useful off-spin bowler, Hooper was a mainstay of the West Indies team for over 15 years.
Hooper played 102 Tests for the West Indies, scoring 5,762 runs at an average of 36.46 with 13 centuries and a highest score of 233. He also took 114 Test wickets with his off-spin. In 227 ODIs, he scored 5,761 runs — almost identical to his Test tally — with 7 centuries. He captained the West Indies and also had successful stints in English county cricket with Kent and Lancashire. In first-class cricket, he amassed over 23,000 runs with 69 centuries.

A Georgetonian through and through, Hooper represented Guyana domestically from 1984 to 2003 before retiring from all cricket.
Hooper was one of those rare cricketers whose talent was universally acknowledged but who was sometimes criticised for not converting his gifts into even larger scores more often. When he was at his best, few batsmen in world cricket could match his grace and timing.
