Aliann Tabitha Omalara Pompey, born on 9 March 1978, is Guyana's most accomplished female athlete and the country's premier sprinter. Specialising in the 400 metres, Pompey represented Guyana at four consecutive Summer Olympics (2000, 2004, 2008, and 2012) and competed at the World Championships in Athletics eleven times.
Pompey won the gold medal in the 400m at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester, a bronze at the 2003 Pan American Games in Santo Domingo, and gold at the 2010 Central American and Caribbean Games. She holds the South American indoor record for the 400m. Her consistency at the highest level over more than a decade made her one of the most recognisable Guyanese athletes internationally.
Pompey is a trailblazer for Guyanese women in sport. Her four Olympic appearances and Commonwealth gold medal set a standard that inspires young athletes across the Caribbean. She has also been involved in athletics administration and development in Guyana.
