π On 26 May 1966, the golden arrowhead rose for the first time as British Guiana became Guyana β the Land of Many Waters. Thousands gathered at the Queen Elizabeth Park in Georgetown to witness the birth of a new nation, with celebrations stretching from the Corentyne to the Essequibo.
π² Pepperpot β The Amerindian cassareep stew that simmers for days β graced every celebration table. A dish older than the nation itself, it symbolises the indigenous roots upon which Guyana was built.
I remember dancing at the Independence celebrations as a student of the national School of Dance (Guyana) at the National Park. The celebration weere elaborate and exciting.
