“The Sage of Buxton — 100 years of resistance”
Born in 1925, Eusi Kwayana (originally Sydney King) is one of the most revered political and cultural figures in Guyanese history. He served as a cabinet minister in the 1953 PPP government, was detained by the British, co-founded the Working People's Alliance with Walter Rodney, and in 1968 changed his name to Eusi Kwayana (Swahili for "black son of Guyana"). At 100 years old, he remains a living witness to Guyana's entire journey to nationhood.
