Guyana's premier annual carnival celebrating the nation becoming a Republic in 1970. Mashramani — an Amerindian word meaning celebration after cooperative hard work — features float parades through Georgetown, soca and calypso monarch competitions, steelpan competitions, children's parades, flag-raising ceremonies, village celebrations, and food fairs.
